Loyal Employees is a sharp critique of New York’s relentless hustle culture and the dehumanization of the workforce. The artist used derogatory and abusive language from online job advertisements, transcribing these words in bold red and black ink onto sculptural T-shirt forms. These sculptures, made from inexpensive, mass-produced clothing often associated with low-wage female workers, double as lamps that can be switched on and off at will.
Through this piece, Boesche examines the value of human labor and the exploitation embedded in modern labor systems, spotlighting how language and societal norms perpetuate systemic inequities.
